Our client, a major media streaming service,  is seeking a skilled copywriter and native speaker to author synopses and other copy in Japanese. You will be among the first non-English writers to join our Product Writing team. Professional competence in spoken English is required.

Who you  are: Are you the one all your friends come to for advice when they don' t know which movies to see or which shows to watch? Do you have an innate sense for the mechanics of storytelling and the rhythms of plot? Do you have a flair with words and a passion for digital publishing? Can you communicate in concise, consumer-friendly language? If you have 5 or more years of experience writing for the web and can demonstrate your entertainment knowledge, this may be the role for you.

How: You must have expertise in Japanese entertainment trends and audience preferences. You will be expected to conduct research in Japanese by using your detailed knowledge of the most trustworthy sources of entertainment information in the region. You must be a voracious, informed consumer of Japanese entertainment who can watch content in Japanese in order to summarize it -- including all-new, original Netflix shows and films. Your goal is to write clear, engaging, accurate copy in Japanese that will help Japanese Netflix members choose what to watch. You must be able to write in many registers -- from playful to serious -- to find the tone that best communicates the content you' re describing.

The Team: You will join a large team of remote and on-site writers and editors. Your key partners will be editors, linguists and program managers, and you' ll need to be able to explain your writing choices in ways that non-writers and non-Japanese-speakers can understand. You must be comfortable collaborating using online tools such as messaging, video conference meetings and shared documents. You' re proactive, manage shifting priorities with grace, and thrive in a candid, feedback-driven culture.

Candidates who pass an initial screening will be asked to complete a writing exercise before moving on to interviews. This is a 6-month contract position, paid on an hourly basis, located in Los Gatos, California and reporting to the Product Writing Innovation Manager.
